Is your church having any extra Easter services to handle the "twice-a-year-Christians," people invited by friends or family, or just the general curious who have never darkened a church door before?

The church my wife and I attend usually has 4 weekend services; two on Saturday evening and two on Sunday morning (with attendance usually around 7,000 or so). Last Easter, from what I've heard, they had six services. This past Christmas, eight services were held and over 13,000 people attended. This year for Easter, we're having nine services and expecting roughly 13,000 to 14,000 people to attend. I know that the sermon will be quite evangelistic in nature, and we're all hoping/praying to see a lot of visitors get saved this weekend.

Ours is having a 6:30am Sunrise Service.

We're having a Sunrise Service as well, which will be a first for me and the Missus.

I'm not aware of ANY churches in the Seattle area having extra services on Easter. More typical is if it's one that has several services, they cut it down to one. I don't like that, both on general principles and because it directly affects me.

Because I work late Saturday night, well into the wee hours of Sunday morning, I'm not able to go to church Sunday morning (or rather ought not to, because I'd zombie through it and maybe fall asleep during it). Instead I attend Sunday evening... but that's cancelled for Easter. That means there won't actually be an Easter service for me.  :(

Sunrise service is extra, but we cancel the evening service.

We have one service rather than the usual six, but rent a much bigger place. Sorry, Izdaari. Does your church offer a Good Friday service?

i don't do sunrise very well

Me, either.  Last time I went to one was years ago at our church in Puerto Rico.  We had a walkway from our church to the beach and we had the service there.  Sunrise should be at 10  ;D.

Yes, they do, in the evening. But my work schedule prohibits that too. The service begins about the same time I start work.

Not that I know of.

Our Messianic place doesn't do Easter. We have a special service tomorrow. (tonight starts Passover)

I recently started attending the Baptist one we're still members of on Sunday evenings, but they don't do Sunday evening services on holidays (annoys me to pieces) and I don't know if anyone wants to go to the morning one. We'll see. If it's the same as last year. the Baptist one not only will just hold the one normal morning service, they'll cancel both Sunday schools, since they do one before services and one after as the norm. (but still just one regular service on Sundays) I might end up being surprised though, perhaps they do have something other planned? I'll have to ask and find out.

I know people want to be with their families, but I've never understood "holy days" being a time to back off church services. If anything, increase them!

I wasn't properly able to prepare for Passover, so we're not doing what I had hoped at home. Instead, since we're a mixed up family (in about every way possible!) we're just doing a special night. DH has to work Saturday for some reason after having all these last Saturdays off, so that stinks. Which means we're just going to have a special dinner on Sunday and if the new printer actually WORKS, go ahead and do the scripted Passover reading or replace it with just reading/explaining it to the newbie kids  and also read the resurrection passage.

You no longer attend Highland Park?

Was the word preached? Of course...do you know what a Seder is?

I know I am adopted into Abraham's family, and the passover is a vestige of the Jewish religion, which many Jews find offensive for Christians to mimic in their attempt at religiosity.

:D

Ours is having a sunrise Easter Egg hunt at 6:30 AM, and after that the Easter Bunny is coming to give kids rides on a firetruck.

We're doing the exact same thing...except we're giving pony rides...... :D

Would you mind if I just move the L in your name a little bit to the left, Blob?  That looks so much better.

:D

Then....Sunday night our youth group is have an all night Harry Potter Movie Marathon.

it was a glorious Easter weekend at our church. a friend of mine who works at the church told me earlier this morning that over 15,000 people attended, and that people were coming forward after the service and getting saved. adam and i went to the 830am sunday service and there were a few seats available but the two later sunday services were sro. God is good!!

My church normally has three morning services; they added a fourth.

I'm glad they did.  One of the downsides of being in the choir in a large church, is that it's quite possible to be excluded from worship after the choir is dismissed from the platform, for lack of seats.  It's especially bad at Easter - I've spent most Easter morning services sitting on the floor against the wall, watching the service on a TV screen.  C'est la vie. This year, though, I had a chair at a regular service, albeit in the gymnasium.

Wasn't just one service, it was after all services people were being saved. I've heard estimates anywhere from about 60 people to upwards of 100 got born again. It will take a few days (probably) to get a more official count, but whatever the number turns out to be, it was indeed a glorious weekend! Our God is indeed a God of second chances (theme of the sermon).
