Whenever you were bored, have you ever thought up a goofy religion and imagined how a group of people would act under that religion's beliefs? If you can invent a funny, goofy religion, please share it. Keep it funny and not for making fun of other posters.
1. Name the religion
2. Describe its core beliefs
3. Explain how people act under the beliefs
4. Explain how other people view those who hold to the religion
Here are two religions that I thought up that had family laughing:
1. Millennial Collectivism
Millennial Collectivism is a form of pre-millennialism that a 1,000-year millennial reign on earth will occur once enough collective good deeds are accumulated from people throughout history. The number and weight of good deeds required to usher in the millennial reign is unknown, but they are collected from anyone regardless of their faith. After the millennial reign, everyone whoever existed goes to heaven. The problem is that, until the millennial reign commences, everyone who dies goes to Hades.
Followers of this Millennial Collectivism are extremely moral people, because they want to usher in the millennial reign before they die. However, they are indifferent to the immoral acts of others. To them, evil is just a waste of time that could be spent generating more good deeds. Their pastors often label their religion as the one that preaches "Even so, come QUICKLY Lord Jesus!" the most, and seem proud of that.
Observers of Millennial Collectivists jokingly view them as "great farmers, but lousy politicians." They are viewed in society as extremely friendly and hard workers because of their desire to produce good deeds. However, they also want to take over the world to set up a theocracy so that they can force others to produce good deeds to usher in the millennial reign faster. Because of this, the media praises them for their economic contributions, but panics whenever one runs for any political office.
2. Vertical Hierarchism
Vertical Hierarchism is, in a way, opposite to Millennial Collectivism in that it focuses on individuals rather than society. This religion has the idea that in the afterlife, everyone that ever lived will be placed in a different rank in a vertical hierarchy where they must serve in that position for eternity. No two people will have the same rank. Each person's goal in the afterlife is to "serve" the person directly above them in rank as well as "punish" the person directly below them in rank. The religion affirms that God is at the top of the rank, followed by the heavenly hosts ordered by rank, followed by all people ordered by rank, followed by the demons in their ordered rank followed by Satan. The vertical ranking of beings at the end of the ages will be a straight line from God in heaven to Satan in hell with all beings about the same distance between each other. The higher up in the ranks one is, the more pleasurable the service from the individual below as well as the less the "punishment" from the individual above. Individuals who happen to be in hell or close to hell in their rank will not experience much "service," yet experience great punishment.
The afterlife ranks and their respective occupations are unknown. One is placed in their rank by God based on how they lived their life. The joke is that one person either already is or will be placed in control of the weather ("cloud cleaner") who will "punish" the person below on earth with annoying weather as well as serve the person in charge of the ozone layer by helping keep chemicals from enlarging the hole.
Their entire religion is based on a twisted view of Colossians 1:17 "And he is before all things, and by him all things consist." "He is before all things" means that God is on the top of the hierarchy. "By him all things consist" means that all things are linked together in a vertical chain to function as a service to God and a punishment to Satan.
Two sects of Vertical Hierarchism exist ("earthly" and "heavenly") that are in heated conflict with each other. The "earthly" sect believes that one has a greater chance of being assigned to a certain position in the afterlife if they resemble that roll while still alive. The "earthly" sect churches often have church authorities that assign all members into church rolls that they believe the individuals would fill, yet they fear that they themselves could end up being placed in a potentially lower rank in the afterlife if they think of another individual lower than they ought. The "heavenly" sect believes that, because only God knows what rank people will serve in the afterlife, that no one has a right to assume any hierarchical role on earth, nor should they discuss what they believe theirs or others' rolls would be with anyone else.
Because of the individualistic nature of the Vertical Hierarchists, society has a difficult time classifying the religion as either good or bad. Some followers of the religion (primarily the "heavenly" sect) are extremely kind and hard working whereas others (half of the "earthly" sect) are extremely selfish and offensive. The offensive "earthly" sect believes strongly that how they rank on earth will rank them in the afterlife. They believe that God will rank them based on how well they can "climb the corporate ladder" or rank in political offices. They believe that if people are happy being humble on earth, they will be humbled in the afterlife. If the "earthy" sect is mixed with the "heavenly" sect, the people in the "heavenly" sect happily get bullied and pushed around by the people in the "earthly" sect.
