Mrs. abcaines and I are camping at our CMA Idaho Roads and Trails Rally.

It's been a rough weekend for some of us...

For me, my left knee had been acting up ever since I started my new bus route a couple weeks ago. Don't know why because the bus I drive is an automatic so I'm not using my left leg... anyhow, while loading the camper the other night, I overworked my gimp knee and had to stop packing. It added a little time to our packing before our departure but no big deal. I rode the bike and Mrs. abcaines pulled the camper to camp. While setting up the camper, my knee got very sore again. To make matters worse, the ground here at camp isn't even so walking around wore me out further. I figured a night's rest would be all I needed. Got up yesterday and hobbled around but got ready for our first ride. We took off and about 20 miles into the ride, we came to a stop sign. I obediently, came to a stop but the road was slightly banked and with the extra weight on the bike, when I put my foot down, my knee gave out and down we went. Mrs. abcaines was not hurt (thankfully) but my knee was finished. The guys who were with us helped me get the bike back up and turned around. Mrs. abcaines and I were able to ride back to camp uneventfully. While riding, absolutely zero pain in my knee as long as my foot was on the foot peg. However, now putting weight on my leg is agony. Another night of rest has done little to help. We are considering going into town (Moscow ID) to the minor care facility. Others here at camp will help with logistics when it's time to go home.

I took a couple days off of work to make this trip but I don't want to take any more time off because they are strapped for help.

Wisdom is needed as well as some healing...

In other news, while we were on our knee wrecking adventure, one of our off roaders was hitting the trails with his wife in their side by side when a root or something came up through the wheel well and jabbed her in the leg. She was rushed to ER where the staff almost OD'd her on painkillers (but fortunately reversed that). She was rushed into surgery and taken home by her daughter who is an RN. Bob and Lynn would appreciate prayers as well.

Still in other news, a young CMA member (not at camp with us) was riding around Idaho Falls when he was struck by a semi. We caught news of it before details were known. Our state coordinator who is here dispatched the Idaho Falls chapter president to the hospital where the young man was taken. He ended up with a broken wrist, a gash in his head and road rash, but was otherwise okay.

Turning out to be a lovely weekend, eh?

Update:

Today turned out to be a good day. I quickly figured out that intermittent rest and activity is beneficial. It was Perfect riding weather today and I was sorely tempted to ride with a few friends and I would have if Mrs. abcaines wasn't here to ride as well. I can ride but I don't want to trust my leg with the extra weight of a passenger. So, after everyone took off on their rides, Mrs. abcaines and I took our shootin' irons to the pistol range. It was a minor consolation for not riding with the group.

The knee feels okay. We're packing up tomorrow but since we'll be in no hurry, we can take our time. I've assured everyone we'll make it. Judging by the way I feel tonight, I should be good for work Monday.

The hospital kept Liz (not Lynn) overnight. Bob took her home this morning. She's resting comfortably. It will take a few weeks to figure out if there's any nerve damage.

Tonight was great fellowship around the campfire. We had a few riders drift by over the weekend so we got to meet new folks and minister to them... that's what CMA is all about.

Thanks for the prayers.
