Ok, like it or lump it, it exists.
I personally do not like it, it reeks of man worship.
But, in our disgust for naming a church after a man, do we get just as riled up over 'such and such LUTHERAN church', or 'such and such WESLEYAN church', not to mention the myriads of Catholic churches named after every imaginable saint or mother Mary?
And don't say...Well, Luther wasn't accused of having a hidden door in his office, Wesley wasn't accused of having illicit relationships.
Man worship is man worship, whether you worship a man with speckled character or whether you worship a man with so-called un-speckled character.
What think ye?

Your illustration is a denomination of like beliefs vs a singular church patterned after one man.

At least that is how I view it. Not saying either is wrong or right but I do see a difference.

My dad pastored a church called Mills Memorial Baptist Church.  Every pane of every stained glass window (8 very large windows) was named after someone.  Don't forget the pews, and even the "cry room" having a name attached to it.

When we'd have to go over to the church to clean, every ghost noise imaginable was heard.

Talk about man worship.  Woman worship too.

(It was anything BUT an IFB church!)

How were each of these denominations started?
One man or a group of men started a church with the pattern of beliefs of another man, Wesley, Luther...
Could it be that the pastor of Hyles Baptist Church wishes to do the same?

It is not surprising that a HACker became the pastor.  8)

But..............that said......Ron's a good guy.

I've not followed the history of those denominations but I assume the denominations were named after their ideals, kinda like Calvinism is an ideal.

Has this pastor started other "Hyles" denominational churches with the same tenets and ideals like the others you mentioned? Or is it a chain of "independent" churches? Denominationalism is tied with the denomination. Is the Hyles starter tying churches together under the Hyles name?

Frankly, I really don't care. In actuality, I think it is honest in that it shows where they stand and who they stand with. My issues is with the way the church in America is structured in general, naming notwithstanding.

One more thing.

Calvary Lutheran Church (denomination)
Calvary Weslyan Church (denomination)

Calvary Hylesan Church?

You have to admit it's kind of amusing for an "independent" church to be named after a mega-pastor from another church.

Fixed. ;)

Yep. Because the American church bases their beliefs more on Paul and marginalizes Christ's words on the matter, in my opinion of course. :)

I even have the extra door in my office!

I remember when the pastor from that church showed up in FBC the first time:

"I am pastor ___________ from HYLES baptist church!"

Bro. Hyles was shocked, asked him to repeat it, asked him if he was serious, if that was the name of the town, then realized the dufus had named the church after him.  Bro. Hyles, chuckled, laughed, made some snyde remark about it being right with God.

Sooooo what you're saying is that there is a chance there will one day be a Raider Baptist Church!
