My stepson is the Youth Pastor at a fairly large Independent Christian Church in our town. When James is preaching we attend this church. The worship leader is a man that has a strong resemblance to Jack Hyles as I remember him during my years at HAC (75-80). Even has the Jack Hyles glasses and his hair is thinning similar to where Hyles' hair was at the time. I get to see the Hyles' look alike come out with a casual shirt and jeans playing a guitar while leading the worship. I must admit I find it amusing.

Independent Christian Church :  i.e.  non-denominational?

The origins are they broke from Disciples of Christ due to liberalism. There is not a denominational headquarters. Some hold strongly to baptismal regeneration. James considers himself Baptist in doctrine and I believe the pastor would also. At least this church would remind you of a non-denominational church. The pastor is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and James is a graduate of Asbury. James had been a youth pastor in a Baptist Chruch (ABC) previously. I think you would find many different shades of churches in the Independent Christian Churches.

I wondered if it was affiliated with the Disciples of Christ.  Thanks for the clarification.

Oh...when did he go to Asbury?

It's great to see your mind working this way.  I would do the same.  :)

Graduated in 2013.

I last visited the campus in 2010.

What took you to the campus?

Uh...a rental car.  Don't remember make or model.

I have roots at Asbury and Wilmore.  Wonderful campus.  Seminary across the street is out of the pit of hell.
