How far do tasers go?

Here's the news story: http://kfor.com/2012/04/20/del-city-police-officer-charged-with-manslaughter/

If a criminal is in the act of running, it confuses me as to the logic of trying to use a taser. I'm very unfamiliar with them apart from seeing them used on occasion on a news story or occasionally on a police show, but the person is always within a very short distance when the taser is used...no more than a few feet or at least no longer than a car length away.

So how far do those things really go? I'm having visuals of sci-fi type capabilities where they seek out their target, wrap around corners, and reach up to a few city city blocks.  :o

(btw no looking for discussion on the shooting/guilt/innocence or whatever, I wanna know about these TASERS!)

Depends on the cartridge that the department uses.

Anywhere from 15-35 feet.

Dang, that's a lot farther than I'd have thought! Wonder what happens if it hits a metal fence or something instead of a person. Gonna have to do some research. I'm sure there's gotta be some people on youtube that have videoed themselves playing with a taser gun. HA!

The barbs will not stick in a metal fence and will simply fall to the ground.  Both barbs have to be in a person to make a connection.

Not sure personally...ask Spamderson, he knows!! 8)

The youtube videos are definitely interesting! One of them showed a whole group of people who went through it one by one as part of their training. Looks...painful!

It is difficult to describe.  Not really painful since all effects of it subside rather quickly.  The worst part is taking the barbs out, but that depends on the angle and depth of the penetration.  The compliance is instantaneous  when successfully deployed and after the cycle is complete you can get up and move, but the mind kind of tells you that you better just shut up and listen.

karate chop

If one touched you it would be more like karate plop. With electrical current it jams the body's volitional electrical signals to the muscles so you fall without option.

There is a video on YouTube of Steven Anderson getting on the bad side of a border patrol officer and getting tased.

Not a Stevey boy fan but the video actually shows border Patrol Officer assaulting a law abiding citizen (an idiot no doubt) but it was an unlawful assult.

Spamderson was getting a bit over the top with the guy.  Tasing him was above and beyond the call of duty, but it did
make an entertaining piece of video.

Sounds like a whack job. Who calls themselves a Pastor, let alone a Christian, then tells the world he's praying someone goes to hell? Isn't that the opposite of what a pastor is supposed to want for people and to teach others?

Then there's the hilariously dumb question in that video, where he asks ask the officer, with an incredulous tone to it, if he really, by law, has to obey police officers. (does he really think the authority of police is limited to making suggestions that citizens can choose to listen to or not?)

I used to think it was good that we have churches on almost every corner. The more I see of them and the men pastoring them, the less inclined I am to believe this is a good thing. siiiiggggghhhhh

If you enjoy watching a mans civil rights being violated then yes I guess you could call it entertainment.

Spammy provokes those confrontations, then cries foul when the authorities react.  He's a bully.  Albeit a bad one.
