Could have sworn I just saw Ted Speer at Meijer, filling up gallon jugs of water with a few young 'uns in tow? Was wearing his black FBC frat boy jacket, looking a little worn around the edges. ( The jacket...) but he leads the Ghana team and pledged to do all JS requested of him, no questions asked...so it could not have been him...

Ted was the final disappoinment to me.  When he changed his beliefs, stances, positions,  because he got a little promotion from Schaaft, I was heart-broken.  I think he 'escaped' to Ghana, knowing him as well as I do.  At least I hope so.

I was there for a long time. I try to take a lot of the statements people make with a grain of salt. I have said many things in the heat of the moment that I wish I could retract. I just hope that a lot of these people will move past the Jack hyles era of "man of god" worship and realize that men are men and always will be. I defended JH reputation to the max and now after being around here for 25 years I am finding out that a lot of what people  said in 1990 was true. I talked to a man less than three weeks ago who grew up at fbch. His parents are still there but he had left even before I got there. Now, after become a relative through marriage, I asked him what had caused him to leave. He said, "Jack Hyles." He said that he was working in the youth dept. at fbch when Dave was there. He said everybody knew what was going on. (including eddie lapina) He said Jack senior absolutely refused to acknowledge what was going on. This after 25 years.

Yes you are very correct on all of us knowing what was going on. We just could not bring ourselves to believe that a man of God could be doing those things. Much easier to blame it on the devil trying to destroy Bro. Hyles ministry.
That was the problem though it was not the Lord's work it was Bro. Hyles ministry we were protecting.
The emperor had no clothes.

God does not need to be protected He can take care of Himself and His church.

It was also going on in the 70's and 80's and we were willfully ignorant.
Thousands of people left the Church over it in those three decades.
That is why we had to work like little beavers day and night to replace them.

Those people are now populating the other churches of the Calumet region.
