In Flagstaff Arizona a man was just arrested because he refused to leave jail.  They arrested him for tresspassing.  What a world...BTW he got to stay in jail...LOL!

Was he homeless before being put in jail? If so, seems reasonable to me. A roof over his head; three square meals a day; clothing; health care if sick. What more could a person ask for?  :o  :P

Not sure if he was homeless, but would not doubt it and it is cold in Flagstaff about 7000 ft...so I believe he certainly wanted to stay.  I just found it humorous that a man gets arrested for trespassing in jail...then has to stay in the jail he wanted to stay in anyway.

About 30 years ago when I was a hobo, Flagstaff was one of my 2 "home bases" (Denver was the other one). Really nice place in the summer, but it can get pretty cold there this time of year. No place to be homeless. (I spent my winters in L.A. instead of there.

Maybe he was lonely and enjoyed the company.

I worked at Juvenile Hall as a guard for about a year, easy since i'd been in for a little while as a Teen

My wife taught school there until a few months ago.

You do your job. Get a few other guards, pick him up and toss him out the door

If you cannot do such, your in the wrong line of work.
I smell a fish...

He was probably from Indiana and it was December so naturally: Stay in AZ!

Years ago, when I first started practicing law, there was an old boy over at the county seat that would do someting every December to get arrested. Old Judge Sutton would give him 90 days with no fines or court costs. He just wanted a warm place to spend the winter and everybody knew it. When the old boy died the judge, sheriff and four deputies served as pall bearers. The whole court staff, county bar and sheriff's dept came to the funeral. Since he had fought in WWII seven deputies gave him a 21 gun salute and a trumpeter from the HS band palyed taps. Since he had no family the flag was presented to Judge Sutton.

This sounds like the setup for one of Spamderson's "Real American" video epics.
