In an effort to get a somewhat pricy item a little cheaper, I took advantage of an offer thru TrialPay to purchase a domain name for "only" $6.99. How do I go about taking my new domain ( thelitehouse.net ) and turning it into a working website?

I've built basic websites in the past, but those were through free hosting services like GeoCities and/or Angelfire. I have no idea how to go about picking/using a web hosting / website building service, or what would be a reasonable price to pay for monthly/yearly service.

Any hints, tips, comments, suggestions and/or help will be appreciated.

What are you wanting to do with the site? word press and vbulletin are both very easy to set up, admin and publish content as well as both being very robust and SEO friendly. It depends on what exactly you are wanting to do.

For web hosting? I use www.1and1.com and have been satisfied 100% with them.

Here is a good youtube tutorial on building WP sites from start to finish.

Probably not. I am an ex FBC member that left when Jack Schaap took over.  I saw a link when I did a google search that took me to a site with a similar name to this one that has to be worst forum I have ever seen. I am not sure what they are thinking about with that site, but I can't see anyone going there.

I saw one thread about this site and then came here.

groupie, Good to see you here we have alot of good people. I was on the old fff but couldn't post...so I came over.. :)

I could not read much of anything over there. Many ads covered the topics and spots I was trying to see.

That has to be up for the award of "worst website in the history of the internet"!!!

As it is now, yes. But back in the day when Don Elbourne ran his FFF, and then when Andrew started his to take the place of Don's, it was a good forum to post in. Oh sure, it had its share of crazies, but that's what made it special. What it has become since Andrew sold it is nothing short of a travesty.

Getting back to the OP, thanks to groupie and Mr. Admin for their help and information.

Not sure yet what exactly what I want to do with it. I'm thinking perhaps a website with information / resources for new believers, or maybe even a newer version the the FFF.

Okay, okay, I'm just kidding with that last one, but I would like to do something good with it. Thinking about it now, since I'm into both cycling and amateur radio / police scanners, I should have tried to pick a domain name along one of those lines. I guess, however, since the website I built on Angelfire all those years ago was The Lighthouse, that's what was going through my head at the time.

Thanks again guys.

:)

I guess it depends on what you want to do with the domain. Squarespace.com is a good one for business, a little pricey, but easy and reliable.

If it is personal, you could just forward it to an about.me page or to a Google site (sites.google.com). It is free with a Google account. Some examples can be seen here: http://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/sites/IXdX3cvLAho

If you are going to run a forum, you need more than free hosting. Remember, you get what pay for.
