53 people have died from the Maui wildfires, governor says, and historic Lahaina has burned down

Wildfires, whipped by strong winds from Hurricane Dora passing far to the south, took the island of Maui by surprise, leaving behind burned-out cars on once busy streets and smoking piles of rubble where historic buildings had stood.

thanks for the prayers and concerns... we are all ok.... maui is 80 miles to the east south-east of oahu and apparently things are pretty bad there... ..we started seeing live videos of it tuesday night on tv from the moment the fires reached lahaina .. but the news coming out about it isn;t able to say much more than just to show the pictures - because it happened so fast and so late at night that nobody has been able to gather news to tell.... . ... we are still trying to contact people we know who live on maui and make sure they are ok.... .so far we haven;t heard of anyone we know being killed or injured but there is still 1000 people missing and unaccounted for.... . ...

thank for the continued prayers for maui and lahaina.... so far they have found 111 bodies in what;s left of the town, but have only identified 7 - all of them adults and over 70..... there are still almost 1000 unaccounted for and believed to be dead - and a large number of those are children...... it appears that entire families and even entire neighborhoods were killed in the fire.. ...

Recovery teams have searched just 40% of fire-ravaged Lahaina as death toll stands at 111

Teams armed with cadaver dogs continue to search the charred ruins.

My pastor has been keeping us appraised of what's going on there. We as a congregation have sent a financial gift to the relief efforts going on over there. Truly sad.

As many as 1000 persons, many of them children, may have died as a result of the fire in Maui. The exact toll -- above the hundreds documented -- is difficult to assess right now as the bodies are charred beyond recognition and scientific equipment to test the remains are not readily available, but the tragedy -- naturally and without basis -- is being blamed on "climate change” in many of the media accounts. In fact, these people died as human sacrifices to green policies, legislative and corporate missteps, and administrative incompetence. The citizens of Hawaii, a solidly Democratic one-party state, are learning what those of similarly governed urban centers are learning: elect incompetents who forget their first duty is to protect their constituents and you will suffer. Will they respond as they ought to and vote out of office the governor and legislature responsible?​
