and purchased anything and then gave it to someone in line and watch their expressions..........we did that this morning in Clewiston,Fl. A police officer was in back of us in line and we purchased him a large cup of coffee.........it wasn't much but it was the thought that counted. We told the cashier to tell the officer we appreciated his service to keeping us safe!! It made our day!! We were in the drive thru............ :)

What a nice gesture!  I haven't done that, but I have paid the balance a few times for folks ahead of me in a line when they came up a tad short.  They have always been so appreciative.  I love it when God gives me opportunities to pay forward His many blessings to me.  More ripples in God's great pond!  Praise God!!

Any time I am in line near an on duty officer/ military personnel, I do the same.  So much fun!

I'm such a hermit, that I don't get many opportunities...but just the few posts on this thread has already convicted me to purposely look for more opportunities to be a blessing.  Thanks, Sherryh, for starting it.

I used to pay the tolls for the car behind me on the way to Chicago.

Has anyone else done that?

I hear the tolls to Chicago are quite high these days.

Done that, too.  I never did try Bro.Hyles favorite...where he'd stick 5 bucks worth of quarters in a pay phone change return slot, then hide nearby, in sight of the phone, to see the reaction of the jackpot winner.

By accident. I gave a twenty for a two dollar toll and forget to get change.

I've done that on several occasions.  Did that in the winter for a County snow plow driver on the way to church.  He was in Dunkin Donuts getting breakfast and we were in drive thru.  I told the cashier when he got up to pay, it was already paid for.  I gave them a $10 and whatever was left over it was their tip.  My husband and I went up to two officers the other day and asked them if we could buy their lunch and they said Thank You, but they had already purchased their meal.  But thanked us and said they appreciated it.  I've done it for a homeless man in Chicago at Christmas time.  Someday I might need someone to buy me a meal!  God knows my needs.

I missed an opportunity recently.  A young woman came into the convenience store just as I was leaving.  I heard her ask for $2.00 of fuel.  As I walked out the door and to my car, my mind swirled...was it her car?  was she only putting in what she used because it wasn't her car?...and I got in my own car and drove away.

Afterwards, I felt like a schmuck. Why should I have cared if it was her car or not?  I could have blessed the owner with another few gallons of fuel.

This thread is a great reminder that there are still kind and compassionate people left in this world. I always try to greet our servicemen and first responders and thank them for their service. Now I am challenged to take it to the next level and do something kind for them. They certainly deserve it.
