My neighborhood throws a big block party tonight. We do it every Halloween. It's an extremely safe neighborhood and the kids still go Trick or Treating door to door with their costumes on. I will see princesses, pirates and all sorts of garb when the sun goes down this evening. I may even put on my Texas Pete outfit (yes, the hot sauce guy) complete with red face paint.

It takes me back to when I was a kid in a VERY middle class neighborhood, when trick or treating was common to everyone. We didn't worry about poison, molesters, kidnappers and the like. I loved it. I always think on Halloween night what a shame it is that it costs so much today for kids to enjoy what I did as a child for nothing, really.

I thought this morning about 48 years ago, when I was a freshman at HAC. I loved Dave Hyles and thought there wasn't a sharper guy on the planet. He hosted a haunted house in the youth center that year -- the old Catholic church down the street. I helped with it. I had never been a part of anything like it. It was full of live actors, ghouls and goblins, chainsaws, strobe lights and even live snakes and rats behind glass. I had never been a part of anything like it and thought it was great! When the guy wasn't thinking about the next girl he would seduce, he had skills. That's such a shame and such a waste.

How do you feel about Halloween? Personally, I see nothing wrong with kids dressing up like cowboys and indians, holding their little bags and buckets and yelling "trick or treat!". I did it every year as a child and it didn't hurt me.

I used to get into Halloween; I was a fantastic mad scientist in the community haunted house for a number of years back in the day. However, I've come to be repulsed by the whole death and gore thing. I'm so glad when Halloween is over and all the ugly yard decorations are taken down (along with campaign signs a few days later). Also, on November 1st when chocolate goes on sale, I'm pretty happy.

Kinda like jack-o'-lanterns rotting on people's porches until a week or so before Christmas.
we use to collect those and use them for archery targets after halloween.... pumpkins make a great ground target.. especially if they were left intact and not carved.. ... but even carved they are good.... .. just have to clean all the pumpkin slime off your arrows after you retrieve them...... 🎃🎃🎃

waikiki has a massive multiblock party that extends down 2 streets from one end of waikiki to the other.. ... both kuhio and kalakaua and all the side streets - though the main action is on kalakaua ..... we have dressed up and gone down there for years.... but in recent years we started avoiding some areas there as it doesn;t seem safe anymore... ....plus some pretty bad fights have been breaking out there in recent years.......... ...when my dad was working he use to get himself assigned to waikiki every year on halloween night.. ..along with one of his best friends and favorite partners.... .there were videos online that had brief images of them in it......

i use to dress up as something different year..... but then starting reusing old ideas and dressed up like a version of midna from legend of zelda several times... . even did it 2 years in a row.. .. one of my friends taller than i am that goes into waikiki with us on halloween dressed up as a different version of midna once..... that was kinda cool.... ...this year another friend same size and shape as i am wants to dress up as hobbits...... even wants to carry identical hobbit swords..... she has 2 of them and i though both of them were made of foam - the high quality kind that looks identical to the real thing..... ..but i found out today that only one of them is foam and the other one is a real authentic sword........ ....... can;t carry that into waikiki......... .... so i might still dress up like she does just carry a hobbit walking staff or something.... ..let her be the sword weilding dangerous hobbit...... we shall see.... still lots of time left before we have to decide and get started on it.....

the costume guide we would use for the hobbit ....i think the sword in this picture

is a foam sword.... ....the real one is a lot more shiney.... but the foam sword my
friend has is a movie replica that also shines.... looks very real....

below is the version of midna and picture i used as a guide for make up and costume.... .
i even have red and reddish orange contacts.... plus a few other colors too... also have a
yellow-orange wig that is still in good shape.... the blue face paint however can be murder..

easy to put on but hard to take off...... .....

and i used this as a guide several years ago.... could always do this one again too.... but when i did this i carried a real bow
and a quiver of real arrows... ..since then they have been cracking down on carrying real weapons as a part of a costume..
..but i could easily come up with something..... when i went as a cavegirl i carried a plastic club that looked real... i wasn;t

about to lug a real wooden club that big around all night.... . thankfully the halloween store stays open tonight until sundown....
