Happy Festivus!

The airing of the grievances is the best part of the festival.

sounds like something invented by an irishman... . ..but i have a feeling ebeneezer scrooge inspired it.... ....a mockery of a holiday celebrated by christmas haters and Christ deniers the world over..... 🤨... ...it;s a humbug...

Mr. Costanza is a bit of an Ebenezer Scrooge—but in a Queens, New York, Italian-American, middle class sort of way.

And it’s a funny concept.
I agree. Back in the day, you were either in the Friends camp or Seinfeld camp. I fell into the Seinfeld camp. The show was probably a bit edgy by 90s standards, but it’s pretty tame stuff compared to today.

i never watched either one... .. it just wasn;t the kind of thing i was interested in back then... .. but i did learn after i first heard about it that the introduction of festivus into the modern age was done by daniel o;keefe.... who produced seinfeld... ..... apparently he and his family had been observing festivus instead of christmas since the 1960s.... . i have heard people who observe it say it has ancient origins or that it is related to the festival of lights that was held at the temple in jerusalem .... but i don;t know if any of that;s true or not... ..

I can’t find much information on Festivus other than what is on Wikipedia. This guy, Dan O’Keefe, was a writer for Seinfeld, and his father is said to have created the holiday as a means of protesting the commercialization of Christmas. I have no idea whether his dad took his creation seriously or, like in the show, it was just a spoof that was part of his family tradition.
