Twenty-seven years ago I was teaching at a Christian school in Michigan. The MACS Teachers' Convention was in Flint and over this date. Dr. Hyles traveled to preach in the evening service on his 60th birthday. Many of us HAC grads across the state gave ahead of time to purchase a rocking chair for him. After the evening preaching service, a reception was held for HAC grads to spend time with him. He sat in his rocking chair as he talked with us.
That was the same day my first niece was born in Flint, so the next day I was able to skip over to see her during the lunch break.
