Yeah, one day Kenny Smith told me that I was one of the reasons why they went to that. I think it was my sophomore year, I broke some guy's collarbone. Lineman wore those nose masks but that was all the protection we wore at that time. Anyway, next year we went to the pads and helmet.

FYI, the helmets were killer. I was used to them from high school (TACKLE football) but never got my bell rung like I did in college. Two different games, Dan Jewell and I collided helmet to helmet and each time, both of us got real woozy. I think that might explain some of my mental deficiencies today. Wouldn't have done it if it weren't for wearing a helmet.

I see a HAC lawsuit in the future.  :)

Yeah, I can't remember the kid's name I hurt. I think it was Eric something-or-other...

Ray Young's son-in-law is the athletic director at HAC. Maybe if you friend him on facebook you could find out what they're doing with football these days...  ;)

I would have no idea who that would be. :)

Well that explains a lot of things! :)

There is comment I could make about RAIDER not needing an athletic supporter either but I don't think the forum is apropos for such a comment! :whistling:

I actually word one under my uniform AND one on the OUTSIDE of my uniform.  :)

Kinda like my 6-pack abs. They are so valuable to me, I surround them with a lot of padding!

My favorite was when the former Middle TN star (?) was showing all the students how to properly come off the line.  He chose a big, older fellow to pick on and show up to all the young guys.  After some serious jaw-jacking about being tough and daring to lay a hit on him, the big old man who had left his position in the NFL as a lineman to be a pastor did just what he was dared to do.

Hidden laughs abounded as the humiliation set in.

I gave Bro. Scott a hard time about the old football set up years later, after we all had left HAC. I asked him what in the world he was thinking by having the defensive line 5 yards off of the scrimmage line. By the time those guys hit the offensive line they were at full speed. My first year we had alot of broken noses and collar bones. 1 or 2 even in neck braces. Our QB for the stampeding steelers (Jim Porticallion, sp?) had his nose broken and scott Butler enjoyed a neck brace for about 3 weeks, thanks to Gerald Perry. The next year, lineman had to wear nose guards. We did go undefeated that year, even with the injuries.

Bro. Scott just laughed about it, but knew it wasn't a great idea.

Hey didin't Buffa play intramural football? that explains his hair.........LOL!

I was thinking more along the lines of no helmet....thus the hits to the head! :)

That is going to leave some marks  LOL! He's going to kill us............... ;)

Can't get this picture out of my mind. If only I was in high school again I would try that!
