In his book 'Strange Fire' John MacArthur evaluates the charismatic movement using 1 John 4 as a test. He credits Jonathon Edwards for using the same test to evaluate what he saw and heard during the Great Awakening and recommends the same test be used to evaluate every 'supposed' movement of God.
So, if we apply the same scriptural test to HAC and the IFB movement, will they pass?
1.Christology vs.2,3
2.Worldliness vs.4
3.Scripture vs.6
4.Love vs.7,8
So...do they pass.
In my mind, no.
1.Their Christology is way off. We see this most easily in their man worship, and in the Lord's lack of preeminence in the Church.
2.Worldliness. Perhaps some would say they pass here, though I would submit numerous scandals as evidence to the contrary and proof that they are living for this life and its material gain and pleasures.
3.Scripture. Obvious fail. Their weak preaching and blatant, prideful, refusal to submit their sermons to the context of Scripture coupled with their KJV heresy give them an obvious fail here.
4.Love. Love only grows in a context of humility, of which the movement is completely devoid. Pride and love can never coexist, and so...Fail.
I am curious to hear your opinions.
