Got Flowers? Why?

Was reading a post a pastor made highlighting this lady's "ministry" of making flower arrangements for the church, especially in front of the pulpit.

It was very nice but made me wonder, "Why?"

Where did this custom come from and why do we do it?

I'll bet lots of missionaries have flowers in front of their pulpits and adorn the church with flowers if possible.
We have a lady who considers it part of her ministry to  make flowers for the church.  She changes them seasonally and does such a wonderful job.  It certainly makes the church look warm and inviting.  I don't have a problem with things like that if done tastefully and in moderation.
