What i've learned in the last few years
First, after researching the fundamental movement, it was started and fostered in evangelical and ecumenical settings not staunch Baptists.
Second, biblical preaching. I can't with good biblical studying, pick a word in a verse out of context and yell about it for an hour. ALSO, I cannot tell people to close their bibles and listen to me, that is not bible preaching if the bible is not being used, read or shown. If you can only preach topically and can't put together a expository sermon, you need to study more.
Third, standards. Standards are safe guards that an individual sets up protect your convictions that you have developed from study of the bible, (not man's books). The practice pushing standards on someone is not biblical. DON'T get me wrong, a church requiring a “uniform†dress code for workers (employees, including volunteers) is not wrong in side church.
Forth, soul winning. The proper name is evangelism, but the current state of soul winning is not evangelism. 1,2,3 pray with me is not evangelism. You can't push someone into conviction in order for them to enter saving grace. You can present the truth, it's not a numbers game. If you see 100 saved and 5 get baptized, then only 1 becomes a solid christian, you failed the great commission. In the bible, the early church grew by, 1. soul's saved, 2. baptism, 3. discipleship. This is not a fast process, and should not be rushed.
Fifth, ego. A pastor with a large ego is not qualified to pastor, he is a servant. His job is to study, teach and preach. He is human, if you feel that a pastor is being treated like or acting like a deity, LEAVE.
