Anyone remember this?

Two things from the pictures in the opening statement:

One, the choir is very full in the pictures.  Now there are numerous empty seats and I believe that the entire back row isn't used now.

Two--what was the reason that they moved the two pianos from behind the pastor's row and moved them to sides of the baptisteries?  Is there a story about that or was it just Schaap's preference?

Some thoughts on the two buildings.

Choir in old building seated 96 while in the new building seating was approximately 120.

Choir in the old building almost never was wanting of personnel except on Wednesday nights.

So we needed only 20 more choir members to fill the chairs. It should also be noted that the seating many times used variable spacing so it always looked full.

As for the pianos, they were placed there for visual aesthetic purposes only. It also should be noted the building was built to look good without any regard to the acoustics of the space. This is a problem to this day. That is why many of us call it a sight-itorium rather than an auditorium.

Acoustic measurements in the area of the chairs in front of the piano on the left side revealed peak sound pressure levels of 106dba. This is past the point where you are required to have ear protection. The person using this piano plays with a heavy rock and roll style which can cover up all the singers in the area around the pianos. Not so good.

The heart of the choir was cut out. The heart was put back and the pianos moved off to the sides and away from the choir. What do you know, now we can get the choir into the pa instead of only pianos.

Interesting.

Can you post photos of the pianos in both positions?
