I realize that FBCH/HAC gets accused of "man worship".  Much of this criticism is deserved.  On the other hand, I think that FBCH/HAC treated visiting preachers in a very commendable fashion.  We all know about the standing ovations for those that spoke in chapel.  On this thread I'm not speaking about that.  I'm looking at the way a preacher was treated who came to visit in chapel or church.  It always seemed to me that they felt "special".  The staff and students were always very friendly to them.  I remember when a pastor with a small youth group or a pastor with his family would come to visit FBCH.  Dr. Hyles would have an usher take them to the office area after the service and they would be given gift cards or money to grab a sandwich.  It is easy for us to say, "Yea, the only reason they were treated that way was so they would send students to HAC".  Maybe so.  I think many a pastor (of small and large churches) was blessed and encouraged by a visit to HAC or FBCH.

I think you are right.  Bro. Hyles would give them money to go out to eat.  I always loved how he did that.

On the other hand, when the big-whigs would be invited to Pastors' School, the red carpet would be rolled out for them.  New suit for the man.  Wife was taken out shopping for a new dress, shoes, etc.  Beautiful hotel rooms with baskets of flowers and goodies.  They got the royal treatment.

Meanwhile, some of us staff who were asked to "host" them were poor as church mice.

*** I sound like a whiner here. I actually enjoyed hosting special guests. Just making a point.

I was at Pastor School when they gave Bobbie Roberson a brand new car. They literally drove the car in the auditorium to present it to him.

I have heard several staff stories about Brother Hyles doing kind things for them.  It may have been a new suit or dress.  It seems like I remember the mention of a vacation.  Did he do things like this for staff or was it just a story or two?

BTW, this does not excuse the poor pay.
