It's been a bit slow so I figured I would try to come up with some topics to spur conversation. For starters:

What is your favorite book of the Bible and why?

Daniel...I love the strong stands the believers take in the face of persecution and choose to trust in God.  And I love the precise accuracy of God's prophetic Word.

Acts

Everything you need to know is in the Book of Acts!

OK, almost everything.  :)

I don't have A favorite, but I'd start with:

Matthew, Romans, Deuteronomy, and Revelation.

I try not to have a favorite but I can't help but be partial to the Book of Romans. For long time I've considered the book of Romans to be a intricate presentation of the Gospel. If it wasn't for the book of Romans, there would be a lot more disputes over the details of the Gospel than there are now. It changed Augustine's life and its pages lead to Luther's "Ninety Five Theses". I remember the first time I realized what Paul had done in Romans 10:5-9 in contrast to Deut 30:10-15. It changed my entire outlook on theology.

Psalms. It first spoke to my heart as a troubled teenager and it still does. I've read it hundreds of times, and I've preached from it or referenced it more than any other book of the Bible in my preaching ministry.

Psalms for comfort

Proverbs for wisdom

Psalms 121 was written for me :)

Proverbs.

There's a boatload of wisdom contained in those 31 chapters.

:)

For myself:

Pentateuch - Genesis (I like all the narratives, particularly Genesis.)
Prophets - Amos ("But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream."
Gospels - John (High Priestly prayer, "I AM" statements)
Epistles - Ephesians (Christ, His Purpose, His Church, our response and responsibility: the first chapter alone is amazing)

Psalms, I love the comforting guidance it gives me.

Wow you're picky.

John.  From the first  verse no one believes, to Jesus cooking and restoring Peter at the end...Praise Jesus! I love that book.

The Book of John is probably my most favorite.

Psalms and Proverbs are favorites too.

John, a book every animal lovers should love.

aleshanee, I can feel your words.  Thank you for that!

I found great comfort in Psalms when my husband was terminally ill with cancer.  I'll never forget the day he passed away...

During the 6 months I was his full-time caregiver (I took a leave of absence from my ministry position) I was following  a "read the Bible in a year" plan.  But when I wasn't actively taking care of him or passed out from exhaustion, I was in my Bible, so I was way ahead.

He was visibly declining, so that morning, I researched the signs of imminent death.  Based upon his condition, I honestly thought he would be with us for at least a month or two longer.  I read Psalm 118 that afternoon.  It struck me so...it seemed to speak to all my conflicting emotions...and it brought me comfort.  My husband passed away at 8:10 pm that very night.

A word in due season...straight from the Lord.  There was no earthly reason why I should have read that particular Psalm on that particular day...

Inf, I got to care for my dad during his last days.........Hospice was a life saver for me!! I worked from home and those days are priceless to me now ...The day my dad died my doberman wouldn't leave his room...they were good buddies. I was with him when he took his last breath. I miss him everyday!!

Sherryh, yes, we had Hospice, too.  They were such a blessing to us.  We came to love our caregivers.

I was with my husband at his last breath, too.  Sitting on the edge of his chair, rubbing his arms, touching his face, looking into his eyes, telling him how much we loved him, how much I loved him...love you, love you...and he closed his eyes and left us to be with our Lord.

He went from eating his supper and deciding on the next TV show to Heaven in less than 10 minutes.  Oh, but it was a merciful death.  For that, I will be forever grateful.
