we haven;t heard much more about it here than what the main stream news is saying...... except that everybody involved or affected by the maui fires is mad at everybody else involved... the state... the federal assistance people here.... (we don;t even know who they are or where they are)... the county of maui.... maui police department... hawaiian electric company and etc...... all of them blaming each other for either the fire itself or for a slow inept response to it...... .... and hundreds of lawsuits have been filed which and are still in progress - so none of them will talk about it much except just to express anger.....
but one thing we do know for certain.... and it;s the reason we are cautious about taking what we hear verbatim... and that is lies were told from the very beginning of this thing......... initially and while the fires were still going on a little over a 1000 people could not be located or contacted... .. mostly because they ran and scattered in all directions to escape the fire... ... so in reality what they were is unaccounted for..... .... but the report went out that over 1000 people had died...... as people were found or contacted it was discovered that over a hundred had died... which is plenty tragic enough without being exaggerated.... . ....and one of them was a paramedic in lahaina we knew .. but not really close to... but he was also the only person we knew in lahaina at all... so we haven;t heard from people on the ground there as much as others have who had family there.....
another certain thing is the town of lahaina is gone..... totally gone......... and since it was a historic whaling town made up of buildings from the early 1800s it is not likely to be rebuilt to look the way it did... .. so far none of it has been rebuilt at all and former residents still only have limited access to what was once their property.... .it;s a big mess all around.... .
