Drag Show at CMT Awards.

Country music has become increasingly liberal and “Hollywood” in the last decade. Some of the old school singers are vilified if they’re not paying lip service to the leftists. There are some, what I’ll call “underground country” artists that are definitely not liberal, but unfortunately some of their music is pretty hardcore raunchy.

Country music was much better when songs were about adultery and drunkenness.

Joking aside, my wife and I will be in Nashville most of next week listening to lots of good country music up & down Broadway (mostly in the older honky-tonks - we're not big fans of the newer places).

Probably talking about "Outlaw Country" which may seem to be the case. I like outlaw country (sans the raunchy stuff) but am also aware that many in the "Outlaw" world are further to the left than many in "Mainstream" country music (whatever that is these days).

Seems to me that men like George Strait and Alan Jackson would be more "God and Country" and they are large enough to buck the woke establishment but very few else are.

Perhaps its just time to turn off the radio completely?

Outlaw country was more 70s/80s. There’s basically a “new” generation of outlaw country music. I read a great article about it a few months ago, but I can’t find it anywhere now. I’m not going to post the videos as examples because they’re just just a little too extreme for this forum.

The most extreme is David Allen Coe and yes, you should probably spare the form any of the sordid details! LOL!

Not sure about Haggard and Waylon but Willie and Kris Kristofferson are more socially liberal than one might think. Same goes for Steve Earle who is flat out socialist in his beliefs!

You have Texas "Red Dirt" Country that is often mistaken for (or sometimes lumped in with) Outlaw Country and this is really the only "New" Country I find worthwhile and their politics go all over the place. One of my favorite singer-songwriters is James McMurtry and he very much left of center but what I really admire about him is how he actually gets you to listen and appreciate what he is saying. Would love to be able to do that from the "Conservative" side!

The “new generation” of outlaws is probably mostly represented by Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs, though they’re probably a little polished than some of the more “underground” singers. What I mean by “underground” is these are guys mostly making good money (though not mainstream country music money) from avoiding big record labels and doing mostly self-promotion stuff—basically getting hits on YouTube and iTunes. Ryan Upchurch is a good example of who I’m referring to.

Wow! Nashville's only 30-45 minutes away from us! Maybe we'll jaunt up to see y'all! :)

I’ve been through Chattanooga and Gatlinburg, but still haven’t made it to Nashville. I’m hoping to get there in the next year or two.
