I remember Jack Hyles constantly exhorting us to not quit (and also not compromise, but, I digress). Learning when to quit (and compromise) has benefited my life greatly. It turns out that quitting may be one of the best moves you can ever make. If you have the time or inclination, I think you may find this explanation of the benefits of quitting by the Freakonomics economists enlightening and entertaining:

Don't Quit was the theme for Pastors School 2009. Alvin Martinez was one of the featured singers that week, Jack Trieber got a brand new pulpit, Larry Brown made threats to CCM and TBN, David Gibbs told fat jokes, and Tony Hutson did the rain dance during the college kids class.

Are you Alvin Martinez, trying to slip in a little self-promotion? The 'louder so it must be better' school of vocal elocution...

Is that the year TH paid his respects or lack thereof to Tim Tebow?

Hahaha I think that may of been 2010 when Hutson did that. Hutson is a big Tennessee Volunteers fan and I'm sure he was a tad bit jealous/envious of Tim Tebow.

No, just a big fan of his. He's extremely blessed and talented. If you ever go on to the Stuff Fundies Like website, don't ever mention Martinez or even Jack Trieber as Darrel Dow has a personal vendetta against them.

Well, thank goodness you didn't meet in the tunnels!    :o

And before we knew it there was a line of HACkers all the way to City Baptist waiting for us to sign their Bibles.

I'm still amazed that we were able to sign all those Bibles in 2 1/2 hours.

I seem to recall years later, Hyles was against Bible signing and so was Schaap.

I am unaware that either one was against Bible signing.

They both would sign Bibles and bask in the adulation, just like a rock star might when signing autographs and charging $20.00 per. I don't think JH or JS charged for theirs though.

I have a bible that was signed by Brother Hyles, Lindsey Terry and Ian R.K. Paisley among others. :)

Tides do you recall when Ian R.K. Paisley was at FBCH? I thought it was late 60s maybe.

He is the guy that started Bro. Hyles on KJVO and Magic Blood. He wasn't even a Baptist, he was Presbyterian.

That is when it was signed.  Just barely but I have no idea the year.  However it had to be late 60's because this Bible is full of Brother Hyles' KJV Corrections.  It was my fathers.

Ah yes, how ironic that Bro. Hyles used to give the proper translation of the KJV all the time when he preached.

Ian got to him, me thinks.

And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,  For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Ephesians 6:19-20

Then again, you did want to set a new record that night!

Wrong again. He didn't do it at FBC/HAC. He did it at conferences and on the road.
He joked that he didn't like it and maybe he didn't. But his philosophy was if your people love you embrace the effect ion they give you, candy, cards, photo ops, bible signing. Dude, where do you get your info?

If you went to a couple of PS meetings, that's not the same as living there. If u stepped foot there under JS, it wasn't the same as when JH was captain of the ship.
