I am away from my computer and have an irritatingly small keyboard on my phone, so I will answer later... For now, what did Paul mean by calling people "weak"?

FSSL said:The injunctions handed down by the IFBrs practically define the "weak" person as everyone in their congregation. They say, "Don't drink because of the weaker brother. Don't go to movies because of the weaker brother." Whenever the term "weak" is used, it is used in the idea of do not offend another brother.
This has taken a clear, biblical concept and watered it down. They erect walls of man-made rules and regulations to make sure that no one is offended at all. So, with these sweeping set of rules, everyone is expected to conform to a certain assumed behavior.
The weak are defined, biblically, as ...
"weak in faith" Romans 14:1
"weak in conscience" 1 Cor 8:7
Note certain things about these believers...
1) They are recent converts. In Corinth, when Paul wrote his letter to them, the OLDEST believer would have been saved for only 5 years.
2) They were expected to have grown into "strong" believers by then. 1Corinthians 3:1
3) A conscience needs to be biblical educated. The weak were still participating in the pagan festivals which involved prostitution and excessive drunkenness. They did not develop a proper conscience yet.
So, when making application to the "weak" in our midst today, be careful you don't erect a man-made set of rules on the basis that some people might get offended.
