Some with HAC ties to the late 1980's will remember Mike Azinger. Don't know if I would label him a true Hacker but a great guy.

Last night he was elected to the West Virginia House of Representatives.

Congratulations to a great guy.

I vaguely remember him. The name at least

That means there's a HACker in the House.

I believe he has a son the age of one of my brothers.

Anyway, he was a decent man, to my knowledge.

Earnestly Contend.

He is a really nice guy, was pretty much another victim of things here at FBC. He was brought back here by JS specifically to help spearhead the radio station and its programming. He was to be part of the "dream team". Only, he was brought back a little too early...and, a little too late...

Too early in that he had to cool his heels for at least a year since arriving back here and the time the radio actually went on the air. He was never really able to find a job and did all kinds of odd jobs to make ends meet. He and his wife had an unexpected blessing of an addition to the family while they were here, a baby girl. (They are mid to late 40's, I believe). Mike even turned to painting houses, which is what he was doing when they left here.

Too late
in that...all the weirdness started happening before the big scandal and the radio station never became the amazing tour de force it was originally touted to be. At some point, JS cut the station loose and said they'd have to find a way to sustain themselves with no financial assistance from FBC. That was odd...after the church hoped, prayed and fought for YEARS (like nearly 20 if I remember correctly) to get the station....

Additionally, the station was a bit of an embarrassment. Very amateur, but trying to be slick and relevant. Pretty much fell flat. There was an attempt at a morning show built on personality...but the personality was lacking.

Mike Azinger was to do a 4 hour political talk show every afternoon, and it was pretty painful to listen to. He tried, but it is not an easy thing to command the airwaves intelligently or interestingly for that amount of time!...the show was eventually whittled down to a half hour, and even then he spent a lot of that half hour playing music and not talking...

However, he is a very nice guy with a very nice family. He seemed pretty much the HACker the whole time he was here, really bought in to everything. But it was not hard to understand why he and his family chose to leave.

At any rate, good he was elected! Congratulations to him. That is great to hear of his rebounding success!

Confusing title to this thread.  A "Mike Azinger" was elected to the West Virginia House of Representatives, but that is a state office and does not make him a congressman.

But in 1998 and 2000 it appears this same "Mike Azinger" ran for Congress in the 6th district of Ohio.  He lost both times.  That "Mike" was a Hyles grad.  Maybe he moved to WV?

Yes I just checked his FB page...he won a seat in the house of representatives in W. Virginia, which is what the OP said in his post and you are correct, the title of the thread is misleading!

This is exactly what I would have written if I could write this well. Azinger was a good guy but his radio show was not very inspiring even though he was sharp and well versed on political issues.
Radio station was almost embarrassing. I am still not too thrilled with any of the programming but I don't understand much about radio. I just know what I like. I usually detest the "something to think about guy."

That's the WV House of Delegates. Three seats were to be filled in the 10th District. 6 candidates were on the ballot, 3 Republicans, 3 Democrats. Of the 6, Mike earned the most votes. It was a good night for Republicans in WV. All 3 Republicans in the 10th District won their seats.

Same person. Mike ran twice for the Ohio 6th Congressional District. First run, he lost in the primary. Second run, he won the primary but lost the general to an all-around scumbag named Ted Strickland.

Mike then moved across the river to WV (his birth state). His father was a delegate in the WV House of Delegates. Mike worked for his dad's business for awhile, then moved to Hammond when the radio opportunity was pitched to him.

Mike returned to WV a few years ago and won his dad's seat in the WV House last night.

I appeared on Mike's radio show a couple of times. While I agree that filling hours of airtime with politics and cultural issues is daunting, I thought Mike did a decent job. Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck make it look easy, but its not.

Hated to see what happened to the radio station and Mike's on-air careerr. I know he has a real passion for radio.

No it is still called HAC.

That name has a lot of baggage that I don't think he wanted to carry.

Anderson is a ubiquitous last name. Could be anyone. Almost anonymous.

With both names together one can zero in.

Anderson Seminary, Crown Point, could be tracked to the Hyles name via a little internet sluething. I (living in Indiana) know that any time I tell some one where I attended, they immediately think Anderson (Church of God) University, Anderson, IN. Most of the time it doesn't matter, so I just let it go.

There is also a southern Baptist college in Anderson, South Carolina called Anderson University. My son went to it for one year.

We welcome Mike Azinger to our House of Delegates.  The midterm elections were wonderful for our state.
