On the matter of same-sex marriage, Green Street UMC sees injustice in the legal position of state government and the theological position of our denomination.  North Carolina prohibits same-sex marriage and all the rights and privileges marriage brings.  The Leadership Council has asked that their ministers join others who refuse to sign any State marriage licenses until this right is granted to same- sex couples.

I thought the UMC as a whole was officially opposed to same-sex marriage (notwithstanding the particular positions held by individual churches)?

Hey Edwards, are you around?

The UMC's official stance is that they don't allow their Pastors to perform gay weddings...this particular local church was also protesting the denominations' position as well.

I'm not Edwards, but as a UMC ministerial candidate, that indeed is the official position.  They're agin it.  This is a move by activists to try to force the denomination into changing their position.  If that happens, the United Methodists will be even less united than they already are!
