The fires would be a problem no matter what party is in power, but Democrat policies are aggravating factors in controlling and ending them.

The foolish Democrat policies are coming home to roost. However I feel so sorry for the poor people who are suffering through this.,,and I’m for helping them any way possible

I lived in California for 7.5 years and fires were always a problem or a potential problem. Despite seeing several fires during my tenure there, they never seemed quite so widespread or devastating as these most recent ones. I also never heard of not having water to fight them.

I understand California's water conservation policies, are the result of appeasing environmental activists and trying to one-up the policies of the previous Trump administration. Leading, as you can expect, to this disaster.

Didn't last year's Maui fires also burn partly because of some native thing about revering the water? Why are leftists always such pie-in-the-sky moonbats when it comes to drafting policy that should be pragmatic?

leeward parts of all the islands here have always been dryer and had less water available than windward sides.... .. windward sides had more water than they needed and often had to deal with massive flooding.. ... so many years ago projects were put into place to divert some of that excess water to leeward sides... . it worked very well - kept farms on the leeward sides of island irrigated.... and it still works today in most places.........

but then... . a few years after that was implemented.... a group of hawaiian sovereignty activists travelled around the mainland u.s. studying native american water rights issues and how they were fought in court.... ... .and when they came back they had a list of demands and - using pagan religious beliefs as a reason - convinced liberal politicans and bureaucrats to put those demands into action - and placed huge restrictions on many of the places where water was being diverted... ..

i don;t know about maui... but here on oahu water is still being diverted from a valley on the windward side we frequently hunt in... and sent to farms in central oahu... and even then the valley where we hunt still floods during heavy rains... even becomes dangerous... ... yet the activists have been fighting for years to get that water diversion project stopped - even though it;s been proven none of them need that water.......

what many of us believed then and still do is - that none of their claims to native water rights had anything to do with "religious" beliefs... but was nothing more than an attempt to be a pain in the butt to the powers that be..... . they have managed to do that through many different means over the years pretending to be champions of ridiculous and pointless causes... .. the water rights claim was just one of them....... ..but even so it;s garaunteed that if it discovered through investigation that refusal to allow water in leeward maui actually did play a part in lahaina burning down - the democrats in charge of the government will never bring it up or acknowledge it as a reason. ..... they will deny it to the very end... .. and no doubt it;s the same in california....
