About 70 percent of all Scouting units are owned and operated by faith-based organizations.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints leads all faith-based organizations with 38,000 units (and 420,000 participating youth), followed by the United Methodists (11,000 units; 371,000 youth) and the Catholic Church (8,570 units; 283,000). Baptists are sixth (4,100 units; 109,000).

The Southern Baptist Convention has in the recent past supported (at least in part) a separation from public schools, and advocated homeschooling as things get worse in our public education system.  Based on the statistics above I can imagine them taking a similar trajectory with the Boy Scouts.  Do you think such political and economic sanctions is warranted?

Guess it's time for a name-change -- from "Boy Scouts" to "Boy Scouting."

Meh.  I went to sign up my son for the boy scouts many years ago.  Maybe they still do good stuff with the kids, but at the orientation meeting for kids and parents I attended, all they talked about was what we had to buy, how they would raise money, and how they would get the kids to sell stuff.  I walked out.

I got the same vibe when I took ALAYboy.  The ALAYwife's teacher connections gave us the idea to enroll him, but their pitch was way too oriented to money/sales.  They essentially never contacted us to let us know what the activities were, and he just fell through the cracks, which is fine by me given the recent turn of events.  He can get structure, teamwork, and a host of other things they provide via sports and my tutelage.

Took my son to a Boy Scout troop meeting a couple times when he was younger. The third time we got there, the troop leader handed me the "teaching book" (or whatever they call the teaching material) and told me I was nominated to teach one of the groups that they broke into. The crazy thing was we had never met and he never even asked my name, much less go through a background check or anything. My son never went back.

However, there are some really good scout leaders out there who really do care and act as mentors to boys, many of whom who do not have a fatherly influence. I would think the SBs would be missing an opportunity to have a chance to provide a godly mentor to these boys by their boycotting. But then again, it doesn't pertain to me so I really don't care if they boycott or not.

As I understand, the new rule allows each church that sponsors Scouts to have it their own way. I don't see what's wrong with that.

Yes. First, for moral reasons. Second, for taking a stand reasons. Third, b/c pressure from gay organizations is what is pushing them to this, and only pressure from the other direction will give their leadership the cover to hold on. IOW, maybe not a boycott, but a boycott threat, honestly meant and prepared to carry out.

I also expect to see, if this does go through, a severe decline in Boy Scout membership and the opening of a bunch of similar, yet conservative options.

Son did scout for 2 years.  Waste of time most of the time.  Kids were bored most of the time, leaders didn't seem to have much training and didn't seem too prepared to do very much with the kids during the meetings which dragged on and on.  I think the thing, however, that really turned us off most was how they seemed determined to keep us out of Church on Sunday in order for him to earn badges, etc... at their camps which were always Saturday and Sunday.  It just wasn't for us.  If they compromise on the Homosexual issue, it will be even less for us.
