Bono's interview with Focus on the Family.

This is not just a change in direction for Focus on the Family it's a change in how people will view Bono. This doesn't bode well for Bono doing an interview with Focus and praising Conservative Evangelicals. I know Bono isn't known for polarization (he's a positive guy much of the time) but there are people who would rather he take a stand on issues like gay marriage and being from Ireland what's his position on abortion? - that's an issue in Ireland now where it may become legal.

From another article I saw earlier--  http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2013/06/24/bono-talks-religion-praises-george-w-bush-in-new-interview/?intcmp=features

Daly said that he expects there may be some backlash over his decision to interview the rock icon, the Religious News Service reported.

“Does he use a bad word here and there? Yeah, probably. Does he have a Guinness every now and then? Yeah, probably,” Daly said. “When you look at it before the throne of God, I think (God will) say, ‘You saved so many children.’”

I guess some will have issues with the first two of Daly's statements, but for me it's the third one that I find troubling.

Me too!
I really had not considered the effect the interview would have on Bono, but in hind site that is an interesting consideration.

My interest was in the mainstream evangelical definition of Christian.
Is it that he fought AIDS and was a humanitarian?

Again, some might argue Bono is a Christian...and he could be....but 'saving and feeding starving people' isn't the Gospel or salvation.
That is a fine endeavor and might aid in preaching the Gospel or showing ones faith...but......

Exactly.

End Daly's last statement with "..but the Cross covers a multitude of sins" and you have the gospel.  End it with "...but you did good deeds" and you have a perversion of the gospel.

I have doubts that Bono is a Christian but he is definitely Irish - I think he is an Irish Protestant-Catholic (a Protolic).

The problem I have with much of today's mainstream evangelicalism is that they seem so desperate for 'Christian celebrities' they are willing to stretch the meaning of Christian.

Here is an article that does seem to indicate Bono has an understanding of faith in Christ.
