I really don't know if the church helped. I really am not privy to those details. But I have always felt that to be a disadvantage of the larger church. Whenever a member has a need, it just can't be mentioned from the pulpit because to do so would open the door of, "Well, we did it for so-and-so, why did we not do it for _______________?"
So we need to rely on individuals to take up the cause of another individual, or people to privately attend to the needs of others. Which is all well and good because I would think plenty of people attend to the needs of others privately. Except...I think sometimes we all might assume others are caring for a need when in actuality no one is. And if it can't be mentioned from the pulpit, it is easy to move on and forget about a need.
I was a little shocked to see that after a month, the fund for Bill Boyd's funeral expenses was only at $150. That is really nothing. When other more "prominent" names put up FB requests for money, it seems people fall all over themselves to give. This should be no different. It's not supposed to be a popularity contest.
We take others offerings each Wednesday, but we never take offerings for our own in need.
I've always wondered about that.
