Bill Boyd Funeral Expenses

This is a Memorial Video Tribute that Cricket wants shared:

I don't have a link to an obituary, per se.

Cricket is not a close personal friend, so I don't know how she is really doing in a behind-the-scenes way. However, her public face is that she is glad her Billy is 'running in Heaven now'. She looks for signs of love he sends her way...hawks were their personal sign of love...she is relying on strength from her family and friends, and she is having to try to sell possessions to try and meet the funeral expenses.

So, again, any donation of any amount would be a blessing to a widowed lady.

Thank you.  At one time, we were close to the family, but years and miles away.....  He was a loved father.

I wonder if the church helped much with the expenses.  Wouldnt ahock me either way.

I really don't know if the church helped. I really am not privy to those details. But I have always felt that to be a disadvantage of the larger church. Whenever a member has a need, it just can't be mentioned from the pulpit because to do so would open the door of, "Well, we did it for so-and-so, why did we not do it for _______________?"

So we need to rely on individuals to take up the cause of another individual, or people to privately attend to the needs of others. Which is all well and good because I would think plenty of people attend to the needs of others privately. Except...I think sometimes we all might assume others are caring for a need when in actuality no one is. And if it can't be mentioned from the pulpit, it is easy to move on and forget about a need.

I was a little shocked to see that after a month, the fund for Bill Boyd's funeral expenses was only at $150. That is really nothing. When other more "prominent" names put up FB requests for money, it seems people fall all over themselves to give. This should be no different. It's not supposed to be a popularity contest.

We take others offerings each Wednesday, but we never take offerings for our own in need.
I've always wondered about that.

It is my understanding that they had money from a settlement from his accident that they invested with Thom Kimmel and lost all of it.

Nice.  And JS got a kickback.

My wife confirms that.
From talking to their daughter.

Kind of sad and  mixed up priorities when a long-time handicapped church member is having trouble paying for funeral expenses and then there is another long-time member who is actively looking for donations for his son to be able to go to India for a year. Still a student and not a missionary but hey: living overseas is automatically missions work. IMO

Actually, the son going to India is not going there for a pleasure trip.  He is going there to do mission work.  I don't see anything wrong with the dad trying to help his son out.  Nobody is being forced to give.

Now...in the case of the Bill Boyd family....the church should be helping them in a big way.  The church is indirectly responsible for what happened with their savings.  And the Bible has a lot to say about taking care of the widows and fatherless.  They won't though.  Because helping out widows doesn't get you standing ovations.

This is in no way meant to criticize your statement but ever since I have been a little kid in baptist churches we have had high school and college students taking a trip out of the country or to Florida for spring break and it automatically becomes "missions". All actively soliciting donations. Now, you are correct that it is totally voluntary to give to these types of things but I am sick of them. Go get a job and earn money and save to send yourself there for a year. Otherwise get out on the deputation trail and commit to a foreign ministy. IMO

I don't mean to be cold, but who is Bill Boyd?

Was he a member of the FFF or just someone who is well known in IFB circles?

I doubt he was a member here.  Just a good man/family that some of us knew and/or worked with.

He may not have been a member here, but I think his widow is/was a member of the "Do Right HAC" facebook page
