Was listening to a talk show host the other day and someone asked him when he (the talk show host) knew it was time to quit.  The guy has gazillions of dollars, he could quit at any time.
The talk show host said that he would quit whenever he quit caring about what was in the newspapers (his talking subjects).
He said that he could fake it for a while, but ultimately, he'd probably quit if he just didn't care any more.

I began to think about my situation.
I have lost my desire to pastor or be in the ministry.
It's been this way for quite some time now, more than a year.
Can't seem to shake it.
I just don't seem to care anymore and have been faking it for several years.
I want to quit, but there are constraints holding me back, not sure what to do and need prayer!
Thanks!

i will definitely pray for you.... i don;t know you well but you seem like one of the good guys here.... i am also not a preacher but what you said reminded me of this.....

jer 20:9 then i said, i will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. but [his word] was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and i was weary with forbearing, and i could not [stay].

could it be that what you are experiencing is similar to what jeremiah went through?....... can you fore see anything happening.. or that might happen... which could rekindle the fire in your heart as it did for jeremiah?....

Not sure what would rekindle the fire.  I've seen a lot of God's hand in my life, but I've been in a dry and dusty land for several years and I'm ready for some rain.  I really want to move on, but I like where I live.  Not sure what to do next.

then i will pray for you that God gives you an answer.... i know what it;s like to need rain.... i have been hoping for a literal rainstorm here for weeks..... this island is getting dry and dusty too... ;)... take and God bless you...  i pray you find your answers and your own rainstorm soon..... :)
Thank you!

I always love to read what aleshee is saying because it always comes from the heart. 16KJV11..I'm praying for you my husband pastored for a while and then went into business. After what happened at fbc he wanted to pastor again it's been a battle to stop us since then.read the book of Habakkuk that is how we feel.. Thank you for praying for us...

"And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God." 1 Samuel 30:6

I doubt there is a spiritual point I could make that you have not thought, preached or counseled.
Just an observation from people I have known who just didn't care anymore:  they usually regretted the decisions made during the time of not caring.  And they came to a point later in life when they did care.  You are a man who is a pastor who no longer cares about being in the ministry.  Cease pastoring and you will be a man who doesn't care that he left the ministry.  You'll still be the same man.

You serve an almighty God, Sir.  Ask Him to do something for you...."Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice." Psalm 51:8

Praying for you and your family.

You didn't ask for advice, so I'll just do as you ask, and pray for you bro.

Many thanks to all of you for your kind words and prayers.

I've always followed and now I'm trusting the Lord... that He knows the way... its faith

I don't know...is there some function in the ministry that particularly speaks to you above other things?  If so, perhaps you can transition into a position that highlights that.

For instance, my brother entered hospice.  They have chaplains.  A hospice chaplain serves a much needed role.  Might something like that speak to your soul?

Just a thought.
