Well here in Arizona you have to get your license then you put in for a draw for the game you are hunting.  I have gotten drawn over the last 30 years for elk twice...the good news is this year I got drawn again.  We have to follow this process for deer also..it has been 7 years since I got drawn for deer.  Just wondering if any other states make it this hard to hunt?

it;s open season all year long here on wild pigs .... . but you must have a hunting license and it requires passing a skills test to get it... . . there is no firearm hunting allowed on this island.... only archery or dog and knife hunting.... . to get my archery hunting license i had to shoot 6 arrows into a 9 inch pie plate size target from 20 yards without missing.... . . and also pass a written test on hunting laws and basic hunting rules and ethics.... . . it wasn;t all that hard..... .

That sounds like a lot of fun...wild pig hunting.  I would have to practice my archery for a little while before being tested...been many years since I did any bow shooting.

it took me a lot of practice and working up to it before i felt confident enough to take the test..... .. but when i finally did it i felt awesome... :D.. ... .. .. spear fishing is actually another kind of hunting here... . . i hunt for tako (octopus) that way.... mostly over shallow reefs with wearing a wet suit and snorkel gear... and using a hawaiian sling spear.....  but there are some guys who go way out in the deep and dive under water to spear fish things bigger than they are.....  :o ... ... that;s almost considered an extreme sport but it;s actually hard core hunting too...... .. way out of my league.....

Sounds extreme...but also sounds extremely fun!

Crazy!  TWICE in THIRTY YEARS!!!  That stinks.

In Indiana, you just go buy a license, and then HUNT!

That's pitiful. We have deer and turkey all over the place. Most areas neeed thinning badly. We've even had an elk hunt for the past few years. You do have to be drawn for it. Twelve tags a year but  they've only been reintroduced in one area in the mountains. As for hogs, kill as many as you want all year long. You only need the landower's permission. They're considered a pest. You can use a gun bow or a mortar.

In Michigan we have the draw, also.  Put in for black bear, we'll see if I get pulled.  Usually takes 5 years, I hear, to get a draw.
Don't know how long it takes to get drawn for your whites permit.

In southern Indiana, Deer are a problem, and if you took advantage of all the hunts available last year you could take 9 deer.  That includes the first deer that you get a tag for, special hunts on public land, private land, and military land, and some counties that have a bonus-deer program.  To be fair, you have to apply for some of the special hunts like the ones on military land, and they are only on certain days--it is not all included with your hunting license, but the first deer, *every year* is.

I lived in Tucson, went hunting near there--why don't you pick up hunting Havilina? Also calling for coyotes was always fun with my Dad.

Wow 9 deer that would be great.  As for havilina...I like to eat the meat I kill...and I cannot stand the taste of Havilina...nasty, besides I have a bunch of them that come into my front yard about once a month...not much of a hunt!

Southeast NC--Deer season begins Labor Day week through New Year's Day.  Allowed 4 bucks per season and all the does you care to shoot.

We hunt bear with dogs through the cutovers and swamps.  Not my cup of tea, but good fun with the right group of people.  Big bears also--we've killed some topping 550 lbs, and I've seen a number while deer hunting that would easily top 600#.  400# is not at all unusual.  A couple counties north of here a guy killed one that weighed 880#.

By far, though, my favorite hunting is rabbits with beagles.  We have fairly good numbers of rabbits (especially marsh rabbits) and good dogs.  Lots of fun, especially good for introducing young hunters to hunting.

here you can hunt all of these guys you want...  all year long... .....  this one weighed close to 200 pounds
and was tracked through a bamboo forest before being taken just before sunset by one of my dads friends... .....

unless i was hunting in a place where our jeep was close by....  i would never shoot one this big myself...
and not even half that big if we hiked in a long way to hunt him....  . mostly because i don;t want either
me or my dad to try and carry a monster that big out of the rainforest by ourselves...
along with our other gear too.. .. so we usually look for a smaller more manageable pig... .
that might be better eating too.... :D....

Now that's a monster!

Yeah, but you roast that monster over an open pit, and you've got yourself a feast.

we slow cook them in an underground pit oven...  an emu... .  the meat comes out so tender it literally falls off the bone..... :).. . make awesome kalua pig....  some friends of ours have a permanent emu that is stoned lined...  and that;s all they do with it is cook pigs for hunters and for luaus ......  it;s pretty awesome... :D

I had a pig roasted all day when I was in Fiji.  Wow, was that good.  You're right.  It's awesome.  The meat just falls off the bone.  I don't know if you get this from emu cooking, but the skin was amazing, too.  They called it "cracklins".

Mmm, cracklins!  When I was a little kid, I called them grackles, for some unknown reason.

Were you in Fiji or Tennessee? That sounds like home to me. We'll take a whole hog, spread him out and wire him to two racks top and bottome. Then build a green hickory fire and slow roast him all night turning him every two or so hours. The all night part is the most fun. The later it gets the better the lies get. Pull the meat and add some sauce and you'll slap your granny. That's Tennessee bar-b-cue. Og we call skin craclins too.
